Mailbird

Mailbird (Windows)

These instructions apply to Mailbird, a modern email program for Windows.

Mailbird works well with independently hosted email accounts and provides a clean, easy-to-use interface.

To set up a new email account in Mailbird

1) Open Mailbird.

2) If this is your first time using Mailbird, the setup wizard will open automatically. Otherwise, go to Settings → Accounts → Add.

3) Enter your full email address and click Continue.

4) When asked how to configure the account, choose Manual setup.

Manual configuration (recommended: IMAP)

Select IMAP as the account type.

Incoming Mail Server (IMAP)
Server: mail.serenweb.com
Port: 993
Security: SSL/TLS
Username: your full email address
Password: your email password

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Server: mail.serenweb.com
Port: 465
Security: SSL/TLS
Authentication: Password
Username: your full email address
Password: your email password

Click Finish to complete setup.

Account options

Once connected, Mailbird may ask you to:

• Choose synchronisation options
• Enable notifications
• Set your display name (shown on outgoing messages)

If you prefer POP settings

POP downloads email directly to your computer and is best used if you only read mail on one device.

When choosing account type, select POP3 and use the settings below.

Incoming Mail Server (POP)
Server: mail.serenweb.com
Port: 110
Security: None
Username: your full email address
Password: your email password

Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
Server: mail.serenweb.com
Port: 587
Security: STARTTLS
Authentication: Password
Username: your full email address
Password: your email password

Why IMAP is recommended

IMAP keeps your email synchronised across multiple devices, including phones, laptops and webmail.

POP should only be used if you are certain you want email downloaded to a single computer.
